  1. Taking everything I’ve learned about EV’s from watching review videos it is apparent that they have a ways to go.

    1. They have a ways to go? Do you say the same for gas powered engines that are inefficient and leak and break down and need regular maintenance and usually only last 1-200,000 miles even after 100 years of development and improvements? After 15 years on the market EVs already do almost everything better faster cleaner cheaper and more efficiently than gas cars do. And with no leaks less noise and vibration less maintenance and lower running costs. Their fuel is 1/4 of the cost, usually more convenient to refuel and in some cases FREE to refuel. Not to mention no oil changes tune ups smog checks etc. Really, the ONLY thing they’re not as good at is long distance towing but 9 out of 10 truck owners never use their trucks to tow anyway so for almost everyone looking to buy this truck that will be a moot point. I owned a truck for 12 years. I used it’s bed every week but all I ever towed with it was a Uhaul trailer across town one time. If I were thinking of buying this truck I wouldn’t care in the least how far it could tow. Neither will almost everyone that thinks about buying it. I’m not sure how anyone can say EVs aren’t ‘ready’ when over a million people in California alone drive one every day and almost all of us are very happy with them and find them WAY nicer and more convenient than owning a gas car. I haven’t been to a gas station in almost 3 years and wake up every morning with a full tank. That’s a luxury a gas car could never provide.

  2. I know the guy who holds the design patent and designed the folding shifter. It’s about user experience, my truck is shift by dial and it’s not very satisfying.

  7. I think there’s a wait on the cheap Lightning work truck because Ford is making them to fill fleet contracts for large companies first.That’s probably just as profitable for them if not more so than selling the Platinum is

    “It feels like a torque converter”

    That’s not what a torque converter would feel like, a torque converter is what transmits power via fluid from the input shaft to the rest of a transmission. It’s why automatic gas vehicles “creep” when in drive with no brake pressure.

    What you’re describing is behavior that is reminiscent of an automatic transmission’s parking pawl which is a toothed locking wheel that a locking finger engages with to lock the driveline and thus the drive wheels. Of course there is some tolerance within this mechanism and the drive line, hence the slight roll before solid lockup.

    The reason it feels like that is because the Lightning actually has a parking pawl. This is because Ford took the dual approach, having both a mechanical locking pawl and an electronic parking brake. The reason teslas are 100% solid upon parking is because they only have an electronic parking brake that is also used as the park hold device.

    Ford just invested in redundancy in this case.

  10. Technology is a big seller for me. I test drove a Rivian and a Ford lightning and compared to my Tesla and my old Jeep and my old Ford escape…. This is very lackluster. I decided against purchasing the lightning. The software guys putting together the screen functionality was the B Team
