Driving The Dragon: Porsche GT4 RS + 318 Turns in 11 Miles | Henry Catchpole – The Driver’s Seat

In this episode of The Motorist's Seat, Henry Catchpole goes to a well-known road that has always captivated him – the unbelievable Tail of the Dragon. It's obviously not a race course, but it has some of the mystique and environment of the Nurburgring Nordschleife when you rock up in the parking area at the weekend. You might see anything from a modded Honda Civic Type-R to a Carrera GT and everyone exists due to the fact that they have fuel running through their veins.

Nevertheless, far from The Tail of the Dragon, Catchpole discovers that there is much, far more to explore in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains. In truth this might just be the greatest, most substantial collection of driving roads worldwide, with unbelievable stretches of asphalt scattered all over this remarkable, largely forested area.

Of course a great motorist's road requires a great chauffeur's car and they don't get far better than the Cayman RS. With the naturally aspirated engine from the 911 GT3 installed in the middle of the car it is an absolute joy to . In fact the only thing that sounds much better than among these engines revving to 9000rpm is 2 of them. Or three. Or 4. Which is what happened when we met some of the automobiles from Smokies GT.

Whatever from a 993 RS to a well utilized 996 GT3 to a PTS 992 GT3 was there and it was fantastic to duck and dive with the cambers, enjoying the wings and hearing the groans. There was even time to stop and brew coffee on the rear wing of a 997 GT3. All in the name of raising cash for the battle versus Cystic Fibrosis.
