  1. Doug the kind of guy to shoehorn his friend into a presenting role so that he can float off on a raft made of hundred dollar bills and live it up on a beach for the rest of his life. Good for you Doug, success well earned.

    1. @Memes 4 the masses I thought it was clearly a jokey way of making a serious point – Doug has made it and can now reap the rewards of his hard work. P.S – A raft made of money would sink.

  2. The sidekick presenter format isn’t really working here. Nothing against the other guy but we come for Doug and all of Doug’s “quirks and features”. 😂

  3. Yeees I’ve been waiting so long for a d3 video! btw Doug, you don’t have to pull the door handle twice to unlock, there is a touch sensor underneath the door handles that unlock the car as soon as you touch it, mine still works on three of the four doors. when the touch sensor stops working you have to pull it twice.

  4. That was also the vw phaeton’s engine. The phaeton also had that solar panel for climate control (amazing to think that in 2004 a VW was more luxurious than Audi’s flagship). The first gen A8 also had a lot of aluminum. I remember that cause my uncle had a 95 first gen A8 and he’d mention this all the time.

    1. one of the phaeton’s engines; it was also available as a v8.

I’d pay hearty dollars for a w12 phaeton just for the quirkiness of it. The a8 w12, not so sure, especially if the s8 v10 from this era is an option.

    2. I actually think the phaeton is a tiny bit more luxurious than the a8 eventho Audi was the premium brand of vw. It’s as if vw wanted to show who is boss with the phaeton.

    3. @Florian that was one nice car. I still have a 200 car magazine comparing it to the bmw series 7. I thought the vw was simply gorgeous!

  5. This car is a great example of “Stealth Wealth”. You just got a high-paying job and you want a nice luxury car that blends in. Those who know just know, and those who don’t will pass it off as another regular car.

    1. You know it my friend. Only those that know… know what you’re driving, and how incredible of a vehicle it is.

    2. @Rahimi To you, maybe not. To people who don’t know cars, it would. Which was the OP’s point.

    3. @Rahimi If you hadn’t seen this video, would you know honestly what it was if you saw it driving down the road? Unless you’re an Audi enthusiast or know a lot about German cars, I don’t think so. That’s what we mean.

    4. There is nothing stealth wealth about Audi- even back then. You need the Phaeton W12 for that.

  6. The moment you realize Doug slowly introducing Kennan to us, so he can take over this channel, like a dog owner who can’t take care of his dog anymore slowly introducing him to his new owner

    1. i hope not. That will be when i’ll unsubscribe. Doug is the main reason why i watch these

    2. @PeachSnapple75 realistically it’s the only reason that Doug would continue putting him in these videos. He has to know we don’t like it, and I do think he is overestimating the amount of people that will continue to watch these videos when he’s not in them. I understand that he now has so much money that he would really probably be willing to take a huge revenue cut on this channel, but I think when these videos start making less than $1000 a pop he might reconsider coming out of retirement.

  7. The first A8 was very respected in Europe. Obviously not as popular as the S-Class or 7-series at the time, but people as well the press were praising Audi for this attempt of entering the luxury market with the first A8 model. The S8 model from the first A8 generation was also featured in the movie called “Ronin” starring Robert Deniro with its iconic car chase. That was the first big product placement from Audi, years before Iron Man 😉

    1. @Enrique Alomia Actually I prefer to forget those movies. The first Transporter was great. The other two sucked.

    2. Transporter made me a huge Audi fan, I remember customizing my A4 in NFS most wanted to look and perform exactly like the A8 in the chase of that movie

  8. Kennan seems like a nice guy. That being said, I’d rather watch Doug try to pitch a house than Kennan review a car

  9. I suspect most subscribers are harsh on Keenan because he doesn’t bring anything new to the review. I think if he had his own segment of maybe background info of the engineering or design cues it would be a better value add. We like to watch Doug do the Quirks and Features, that’s why we’re here! That said, I am secretly hoping for a video soon where Doug trashes the car, it has been a while since we’ve had a review like the Corolla and Ghibli.

  10. I’ve always like this generation of A8. This era of Audi was really good, especially design wise.

    1. @Audifan Bot or not (I could care less about the profile pic), the information written in the comment is a fact. This was the best period in Audi’s design history. Timeless cars.

    2. @Tuhnu. Yes 👍 interiors from this era are classic. Still look fresh, and as you said, tank solid.

  11. Finally a D3 A8 on the channel. This car’s been overlooked for too long. It’s insanely great for the money. Better than most new luxury cars, they don’t make them like this anymore.

    1. @Turtle Expensive to repair, yes. Unreliable… I can disagree from personal experience. Those two things don’t always go hand in hand.

  12. I had a 2009 A8L and it was one of my absolute favorite cars to own. One day ill give into my temptations and buy another one. Absolutely adore these cars and i miss mine every day. Never should have sold it. I have an A8L open in my web browser right now

  13. You finally decided to review my car!

I wished you showed more features like the wiper blades alternating resting position after each wipe, the air suspension’s ability to raise and lower the car, and to soften or stiffen the dampers in Comfort and Dynamic mode, the bixenon headlights with cornering lights and adaptive front lighting (they move as you turn the steering wheel), the transmission’s sport mode to hold RPM’s higher, the amazing 12 speaker sound system, the 22 way adjustable power seats with massage, soft close doors, headlight washing system, heated wiper fluid nozzles for winter, power folding-auto dimming and heated mirrors, etc, etc…

    Thank you for reviewing this!

  14. The D3 is such an awesome car. One of my Audis is a D3 S8 V10 and never get tired of it.
P.S. You left out one very important thing. This A8 D3 W12 was the first Audi ever to have the single frame grille. In the beginning it was only the W12 version. First when the A8 D3 got a facelift, other engine variants also adapted it.

  15. Doug, you have a unique talent that fills a niche. The guests you have on the show are okay for garage videos (lists or trends) but they hurt your reviews

  16. This car will always have a soft spot for me. When i was working as an intern mechanic with some of the most wonderful people on the last day of my internship one of these came in to the shop. At the end of the day, my supervisor asked if it was still in the parking lot, to which it was, and asked him to take me around a bit in it. I was of course ecstatic, having never been in anything greater than a Ford kuga. My first real experience with a more high-end car that, at that time, was by far the fastest thing I’ve been in. That week was probably the best time in my life.
