  1. Whoever designed the exhausts is crazy in a cool way.
Whoever designed the grille is crazy in a not so good way…

  2. We are still in “controversial” and not in “ridiculous and worth of humiliation”?

    1. The new BMW designs will be worth little 20+ years from now. Ugly, unless truly unique, holds no value.

    2. The BMW execs are watching that’s why Doug can’t rip this thing a new one. Last time one US automotive journalist made fun of the 7 series’ side bar for looking like a hockey stick and the execs really were angry at that.

    1. Well majority of Bangle’s design were horrible enough to get himself sacked, like almost every BMW he designed is ugly with the 6 series E63 is an exception which that design is still good looking, with the current designer volume seller like X1 and X3 looked better than Bangle’s own design of his car the X1 and X3 of his is worse than the current designer’s one. At least we get the 3 series which is still an iconic car of the brand that looks good

    2. @Jimmy Canzoniero I think only the E61 really aged well, the E60 still looks ‘obese’ to me. Obviously it’s better than the pre-LCI E65 but that’s not saying much (and I think the E65 LCI was a huge step up; I’d honestly pick it over an E60)

    3. @sean siew considering what they’ve turned out since he left, he’s looking better and better. The X6 is hideous and this new XM isn’t much better. The X7 looks like a beaver. If the X7 looked half as good as a Range Rover, JLR might be out of business by now.

    4. @Jimmy Canzoniero  well they are controversial for a reason, they just want sales, and tbh also why JLR sells well despite horrible reliability is because its a status symbol car especially Range Rover like Mercedes with the G wagon, large grilles may not be your taste but I rather have any current BMW because they do not have a lawnmower engine like what AMG of Benzes do have now, especially the C63s,GLC63s and CLE63s

  3. Worth pointing out. The first press release model of this car design was quite a bit different than this. It was basically an over exaggerated example of all the design effects on the production car. They just pulled it back by like 2 notches to make it more generic. If you go back and look at that first version, it looked truly bizarre, Hard to understand how a major company comes up with the Delorean of SUVs in present day.

    1. @Purwanti Allan It really didnt. This is one of those things where it outs people who have literally no minimum standards for things they give input on. Great contributions to lowering the overall societal bar.
“No, X thing thats objectively bad or worse than any other of X thing isnt actually bad, Its great!”

  4. Props to Chat GPT for designing a car but it still needs some optimisation in the future updates if you ask me.

    1. Thank you so much for your videos! I had a misfortune, I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. I also created a channel and am trying to move in that direction, but so far not very successful((ka

  5. I feel like vehicles are becoming more expensive just to be expensive. There is literally no reason a vehicle like this is $160K!

    1. My house costed $290k in Maryland……I can’t believe it they asking for $160k for this….s h I t and people need to stop buying from these brands

    2. Since you’re talking about reason, why buy M-Cars, Urus, Cayennes in a country with a speed limit of what, 55/60 mph?

    3. Soccer moms who marry rich guys will buy these. Trust me, where I live it’s just nothing but unemployed rich women driving around in G Wagons, Bentaygas, Cullinans, Levantes, and Uruses their 30 something years older husbands bought them.

  6. For something made to celebrate the anniversary of the BMW’s M division, they certainly made it a memorable one, for all the wrong reasons!

  7. It looks like if Asus made a car, everything is so over the top and inconsistent and it really has that Gamer™ vibe.
Also the headliner looks like the Fractal Design Meshify, and the Label Red version took the phrase “lipstick on a pig” too literally.

    1. Yes, it has that ugly “transformer toy” look to it that all the new “gamer” computer parts cater to.

    2. The headliner looks like it was shoved into a bag all wrinkled and they pulled it out and didn’t bother to iron it before installation

  8. Doug: “the Urus is an ugly car, frankly I think the XM is better looking”
Also Doug: gives the XM a 5 for styling while the Urus got a 6

    1. The first ever “Doug is the type of guy” that really mocks him for good reason! Congrats.

  9. The XM really has the same energy as when the original X6 launched. It trully doesn’t look like anything else and it isn’t really for the enthusiasts. It’s for the people that don’t care about the car, they just care about standing out in traffic.

    1. Let’s not forget the original X6 went on to be copied by every other luxury automaker. Speaks volumes about BMW’s vision.

  10. BMW had a bunch of XMs at the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona and I thought the car looked fine – weird but okay weird – in person and in certain colors. I think the gold trim is the one thing that can make the car a little jarring appearance-wise, especially if it’s paired with, say, green paint and the black shadowline nose. I’m glad BMW took some risks with the XM but the price for this type of vehicle is for the Miami Beach / Dubai crowd

  11. I saw one a couple weeks ago and the XM definitely looks better in person than pictures. However I think the grill designers need to be stopped. Eventually its just going to be 2 giant grills without a front.

  12. If no one else has already mentioned this. I really appreciate the team doing the conversions from old imperial to metric systems. Thanks!

  13. My friend’s 1980’s Oldsmobile had that same geodesic headliner. But that effect wasn’t deliberate, it was the glue falling apart in certain areas, and he took an iron to try to fix it, and ended up getting that chiseled look.

  14. Thanks Doug for showing us that BMW needs help. Makes the price of a Tesla model x plaid look good. Save 40-50K and get 1020 horsepower and hardly ever need service. Let us know how many of these they sell. Nice video. Thx again.

    1. bro this comment is so American. The Fahrwerk in a BMW is way better. The overall driving experience is way better. Of course you can buy a trash car and do <3s 0-60, but everything else isn’t good.

    2. @9cage Don’t you read the line “A tesla hardly ever need service” and also the Profile Picture..Its maybe a bot..
Anyways XM looks bad there must be better options..

    3. The XM is sold out already, and the waiting list is iver 2 years.

Not everyone wants an ugly frog like vacuum cleaner.

    4. @Variabledegree series Yeah maybe a bot. Yes, a Tesla can bring you from A to B quick for cheap money. Yes, the Tesla service is cheaper. But Audi, BMW, Mercedes and co. just have the better overall driving experience for more money. Can’t say you buy a Tesla and get the better driving experience against a XM. Doesn’t make sense to me. Yes, the XM doesn’t win the award for the most beautiful BMW.

    5. @9cage well a tesla can bring you from A to B for cheap is not the same as low service cost. It may be much better than the germans but low service cost is something than toyota gives..And the bot said no service charge (which I pointed out). Yeah the XM might be great to drive but the look is horrible enough for me to not even care..Bad design was hardly an issue at this price range a few years ago but now it is..
