  1. I genuinely want to buy one of these as a daily driver but I know they’re going to be scalped from dealers for years

    1. Seriously I want one to daily but I don’t need another daily cause the 996 turbo keeps chugging but damn if this isn’t an appealing package

  2. So excited for this car and I want one. Those dealerships are going to mark them up so much just like the type r

  3. While this car is amazing, it still disappoints me to no end that Toyota won’t sell the GR Yaris here in North America! Not all of us want a 4/5 door hatchback and a smaller 3 door would be perfect! Also, I cam almost guarantee that dealership greed is going to ensure that none of these will go out the door for less than $60K and that will spell the end of the GR Corolla due to poor sales from dealership greed.

  4. I think the normal Corolla Hatch is already pretty cool looking in higher Trims with the Alloy Wheels honestly, I really wanted and still want one even before this GR one was even a thing.

  5. It’s a shame what the dealerships are doing to this. Insane markups combined with the botched roll-out of the GR Corolla. Looks like I’ll be waiting a while to pick up one.

    1. with those limited numbers that was inevitable
if they had unlimited numbers and sold in europe i”d have ordered already

  6. I’m so grateful to Doug. I put myself on the wait list at 3 dealers for the gr. Doug touched on a point no reviews does, the hard suspension. I’d buy a Toyota for life. I don’t want my life to be punishing. So thanks for dissuading me, Doug!

  7. It’s beautiful. Good job by the designers – it’s very ‘sporty’ looking, compared to the regular Corolla.
I’m not an engine or machine engineer but I think that such a small block engine, with so much power for its size, won’t last as long and won’t be as reliable, as other Toyota engines.
It’s still worth getting. It has a lot going for it.

    1. @GroggySword33 450 HP on a Yaris? That’s insane.
I think it’ll probably take a year or two before you start dealing with reliability issues.
As I said, this is still a great car to get. You can’t get this much for your money somewhere else. The Hyundai N models are also a good option but this car is the one to get, if you’re looking for an affordable, fun to drive, little sports car.

    2. @GroggySword33 Physics hasn’t changed as far as I know. The stress still impacts the engine block. Maybe they build them better these days but eventually it’ll crack.

    3. @mmjackk definitely hasn’t changed. I’m still on the earth, haven’t floated away yet.

Eventually it’ll crack, but so will any engine at a certain age. But these turbo 3 cylinders are just as reliable as a N/A 4 cylinder with how they build them. I wouldn’t worry about them. The cylinder and blocks are insanely thick. It looks like a Lego brick.

    4. It’s not that critical when you’re considering buying a car like this one.
Owners of these cars have replied here that it’s not the case and now I see that it’s probably less than an issue compared to what I was thinking. I take it back. Y’all have a nice weekend.

  8. I really liked how hyped Doug was, although, I wouldn’t fly so high on the Toyota Corolla since the Yaris GR version has had issues with the gearbox. Specifically with the second gear and Toyota hasn’t recognized it and has declined warranty claims from some of the buyers, telling them that they’ve misused the car. In other words, Toyota is saying that the costumers are driving the car in an inappropriate way 😂. I mean, you buy a rally spec car to actually drive it as it was meant to be, and they tell you that you can’t do it

  9. I’ve heard everything I wanted to hear from you, Doug. In recent months, I’ve been contemplating dropping off of a dealer’s GR Corolla wait list and getting a GR86 instead. But what you found about GRC brought me back to it. What you found is what I want in a car I own and I drive. I’m in a fairly good position on the wait list. No more screwing around with GR86. I am going to get a GR Corolla. Thank you, Doug.

    1. Coming from a GT86 to a GR Yaris, if you not well aware of AWD driving dynamics and want accessible fun in public roads, you are better off with the GR86. Forget pressing the GRC in public roads, it just grips everywhere

    2. @Nikos Dimitriadis Thanks, Nikos. I guess I may know a thing or two about AWD for I used to have an Impreza and a WRX. I’ve been driving a Focus ST, which is my first FWD ever, and I just miss AWD. The GR-FOUR system could be different compared to the old Subaru’s, but I guess I’ll see how I feel.

  10. I think you’re giving the car, and other hot hatchbacks like it, a bit too much crap for having basic interiors. For one, a basic interior in 2022 likely has equivalent or better features compared to luxury cars from not that long ago, even if the materials are still pretty cheap. Also, I think most people who buy a performance car around this price point would rather not spend extra money just for a dashboard and center console made of fine leather and wood.

  11. I honestly am happy the car doesn’t have rev matching by default. The fact that it’s so crude and presumably raw is the part that I absolutely love. I don’t need or want gimmicky stuff like sunroofs and luxurious rides. I solely drive carbureted cars with manual everything because modern cars simply don’t do it for me.

I get the feeling this is one of those few cars that’ll suit my driving but sadly they’ll likely be scalped beyond reasonable prices until Toyota quits producing them. 😢

  12. There is a reason for the three exhaust pipes on the gr corolla.. the middle one opens up at full throttle to relieve back pressure

  13. I’m starting to think manufacturers need to do away with dealerships, or at least offer buyers a direct sales option.

  14. I just love that Toyota is carrying the car culture right now. Whilst the others just need to join the EV band wagon, Toyota is like nah, we perfected the hybrids, so let’s give the car community their share. I love Toyota GR.

  15. This video reminded me of the Plaid video where seeing Doug’s reaction to each car’s best feature was as an absolute joy. I love this video because it shows that even though you can have a very expensive car like the Plaid with it’s super car acceleration, you can still have the same, if not more, fun in a light and nimble GR Corolla, yet still be blown away.

  16. As a new car manager at a Toyota dealer we have never seen so many people, from all walks of life, calling and even demanding to order the GR Corolla even before A DOUG SCORE! Oh boy things are gonna get wild for this one… Great review as always Doug, long time watcher first time commenter.
